Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic says that forming local governments with the Democratic Party (DS) in Zemun and Vozdovac is a last resort. “Our basic idea is to make a coalition with parties that are not in government at state level,” he told daily Vecernje Novosti. Nikolic: Coalition with DS “last resort” Asked why they would not return their mandates to the Serb Radical Party (SRS) in order to achieve that goal, Nikolic said “because we would be violating our principle that the mandate belongs to the MP. That’s what it says in the Constitution. I cannot give them back my mandate, because I never gave them my resignation.” He said that he would probably be meeting with Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica on Monday. “If the SRS rejects cooperation with us, we have to talk to the DSS about whether there is any possibility of arranging something without the Radicals. It all depends on that,” Nikolic said. “We are an acceptable partner to United Serbia (JS) and PUPS. But only if the DSS agrees and if the Radicals say no. I wouldn’t even mind going with the Socialists. They haven’t said anything, but we could talk to them as well,” he said. Asked whether the SNS could enter the state government were Mladjan Dinkic’s G17 Plus to pull out, Nikolic said that he would never enter a government without elections. “There has never been any discussion between us and the DS, on any level, of being a part of the government, not even in the event of the joyful news for Serbia of Dinkic disappearing from the political scene,” the SNS leader said.
