Minister of Labour and Social Policy Rasim Ljajic assessed on Monday that it would not be possible to draw a social pact before next year. But, he added that in 2009, "we should sign a memorandum on social partnership during the crisis". Ljajic: No "social pact" this year At a meeting of the Social Dialogue working group in the Serbian parliament, which was attended by the representatives of both trade unions and entrepreneurs, Ljajic said that talks about the social package could be launched in 2010 if certain prerequisites had been met. He mentioned analyzing the already signed agreement between social partners, conclusion of branch-level collective agreements and the signing of memorandums that would imply the setting up of a tri-party body dedicated to the prevention of workers' protests. “At the moment, Serbia is faced with about 20 rather radicalized protests," the minister said, and added that such a large number was not to be ignored. Once set up, the body would overtake the responsibility of removing problems at the local and regional level, or, at least, of pointing to the reasons as to why these problems cannot be solved.
