President Boris Tadic's recent visit to Paris went "far better than expected", sources close to the top Serbian state institutions revealed. They told Belgrade daily Blic that Tadic's meeting with French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy went well, while the French MFA, headed by Bernard Kouchner, "had prepared a much less favorable approach to Serbia". France visit went "better than expected" The same sources quoted Sarkozy as saying during the meeting that, "Serbia has suffered a lot, it was humiliated and it's time to end that". According to this, the French president reminded of the "great sacrifices" in Kosovo and stressed that "conditions must not be imposed on Serbia again". After this, Sarkozy proceeded to promise "all necessary support" to Serbia to achieve visa-free travel for its citizens going to EU countries, and continue the process of EU integrations. This position is interpreted by the same anonymous sources who spoke to the daily as proof that the meeting with the Serbian delegation "made Kouchner's influence on France's policy toward Serbia weaken". The article dubs this a "new policy of France", says that it emerged during Tadic's visit, and that official Paris had appraised that "it needs reliable allies among new EU members".
