Kosovo government officials were absent from a CEFTA meeting in Budva yesterday after refusing to be represented at the meeting under the name of UNMIK. Pristina media report that Kosovo Trade and Industry Minister Lutfi Zharku said that the province’s no-show at the meeting did not constitute a boycott, and that it just wanted to legally define its position at these meetings. Kosovo snubs CEFTA meeting Zharku said that he expected the problem to be resolved soon, adding that talks with senior international officials had been scheduled to address the issue. The meeting of CEFTA free trade agreement signatories went ahead in Budva on Wednesday without Kosovo officials present, at the level of deputy economy minister. The meeting included discussions of agriculture liberalization between CEFTA member-states and removing customs obstacles to trade in the region. “We cannot sign anything while we are signing with the name UNMIK, nor did UNMIK say it was prepared to sign that protocol,” Zharku said. CEFTA is a trade agreement defining a single free trade zone in South-East Europe.
