Residents and businessmen from Zubin Potok have lifted their blockade of Ribarice-Kosovska Mitrovica road after a three-hour protest. The blockade was organized, the businessmen say, in protest at EULEX’s moves to tighten customs controls. Serb businessmen lift blockade The president of the the Zubin Potok Business Association, Rade Utica, told Tanjug that the road had been blocked “because of the willfulness of EULEX customs and the beginning of the customs procedures at the Brnjak administrative crossing.” The blockade began at 7:30 CET, and according to the organizers, it is still not known how long it will last. The organizers stated that their intention was to prevent EULEX officials passing through Zubin Potok to take over the shift of their colleagues in Brnjak and “not allow them to implement the customs process without the previous six-point agreement, which includes customs.” A long tailback of vehicles going from Ribarice to Kosovska Mitrovica has formed on the road. The protestors are businessmen from Zubin Potok, who have since been joined by other residents. EULEX customs officials have begun implementing added measures at the administrative crossing in northerm Kosovo, which include submission of photocopies of driver’s licenses and registrations for those bringing products in to Kosovo at these crossings, with a view to cracking down on smuggling activities.
