Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic stated that the European Commission report on the liberalization of the visa regime for the Western Balkans is favorable for Serbia. But, he noted, it does not offer any recommendations for visa abolishment, though it shows to what extent Serbia has fulfilled the criteria stemming from the road map. Visas report "favorable, without recommendations" “The Serbian government is doing its best to have the visas for Serbian citizens abolished, but we should not make guesses about the timetable, on the contrary, we should be patient,” Djelic told journalists in Belgrade on Thurasday. He explained that visa regime liberalization is being discussed in view of reports by the EC and the Schengen states, after which the EC will suggest to Serbia what it should do in order to improve the Serbian report. According to him, the earliest possible opportunity for Serbia to join the so-called white Schengen list can be after Sweden assumes the rotating EU presidency at the end of 2009. According to a Tanjug news agency report, Djelic clarified that the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija will get their passports in compliance with a specific procedure, "so as to keep biometric passports from falling into wrong hands".
