International High Representative to Bosnia-Hercegovina Valentin Inzko says that Bosnia must complete 27 more tasks set by the EU and do so swiftly. Inzko was commenting on news that Bosnia-Herzegovina would not be receiving a recommendation from the European Commission (EC) to liberalize the visa regime. It comes after media reported that the EC’s May 18 report would state that the country had not fulfilled all its obligations or adopted all the necessary laws. Inzko: 27 conditions still to go “Once that is complete, then there will be liberalization of visas. But, I don’t think there is much time left and it should be completed under some kind of urgent procedure, so that Serbia, Macedonia and maybe even Albanian aren’t any faster than Bosnia-Herzegovina, because we know what that would mean,” the high representative said. He observed that the EU had set Bosnia-Herzegovina and other states, including Serbia and Macedonia, 174 tasks. Of these, 27 had not been completed, he noted, adding on the positive side, that that meant that 147 had been fulfilled. The remaining 27 include issuing biometric passports, improving border control and such like. “Some people might go to neighboring countries and get their passports there. That is why I am calling on all who are responsible to swiftly implement all measures for the sake of the citizens, in order to achieve liberalization of visas for Bosnian citizens as quickly as possible,” Inzko said. He added that the ones paying the highest price for these failures were currently the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
