Kosovo’s Interior Minister Zenun Pajaziti has called on Interpol to dismiss Belgrade’s applications for the extradition of its citizens. Pajazati made the call in a letter to Interpol, after the arrest of former Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku in Colombia on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the Serbian authorities. Kosovo IM in appeal to Interpol According to the indictment, Ceku, as a former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army, is accused of command responsibility for the murder of 669 Serbs and 18 other non-Albanians. “I have sent a letter on behalf of the Interior Ministry urging them to ignore these kinds of requests from the Serbian state, which are chiefly politically motivated. I recommended close cooperation with the Kosovo police, which is responsible for everything that happens on Kosovo’s territory and for its citizens,” Pajazati told local media. He said that Kosovo would continue to lobby for membership of Interpol, in order to avoid any repeats of such incidents in future. Ceku has been arrested on the basis of Serbian warrants on two occasions: the first time at Ljubljana airport in October 2003, the second time in Budapest in February 2004, though he was released on both occasions.
