Daily Danas writes that political parties in Serbia are hiding their real financiers in the reports they present to parliament. The daily writes that the real donors are fronted by either bogus or bankrupt companies. “Parties concealing real donors” The financing reports for 2008, presented to parliament’s Finance Committee and seen by the daily, contain substantial oversights and contradictions that can but heighten public doubts as to the authenticity of the parties’ officially backers. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have not stated the names of any individual or company that helped them financially last year, while the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and Serb Progressive Party (SNS) did not name a single company. Danas confirmed that most of the companies that donated to the Socialist Party (SPS) and Pensioners Party (PUPS) were not even listed in the records of the Economic Registers Agency. Either there have been serious legal irregularities, or these were companies that donated and were then terminated, the daily writes. It is interesting that the SPS’s largest donor, the Viadukt company, made EUR 34,400 in 2008, and gave the party EUR 29,000. The next largest donors, Ladja, Hidro Pro Elektro and Furobata, are also unregistered. A company that New Serbia listed as a donor, Panikop, made an operating loss in 2007, while the Birotehnika company made a profit of EUR 817 last year, and gave New Serbia EUR 538. PUPS and the Serbian Renewal Movement’s (SPO) sole donors are also unregistered. More than a third of the Democratic Party’s (DS) listed donors are unregistered, and the same goes for the top six donors to the G17 Plus party in 2008.
