NATO says the refusal by a certain number of countries to take part in the upcoming military exercise in Georgia will have no consequences for future relations. “This training is a part of the program called Partnership for Peace which is held every year, and participating in it depends on the individual decision of each country included in the program,” NATO spokeswoman Carmen Romero said in an interview for German radio Deutsche Welle, adding that every country could decide whether to take part or not. NATO: No consequences for exercises snub “Therefore, there is nothing divisive that might affect relations between NATO and the countries that decide not to be a part of the training,” Romero clarified, pointing out that the Alliance had not yet received any official confirmation from the authorities in Belgrade that Serbia would not be participating. According to NATO, the forthcoming exercise will take place in Georgia from May 6 until June 1 and its goal is to improve cooperation in responding to crisis situations at a multinational brigade level. Russia is opposing the exercise, reiterating that a military exercise of American and Georgian forces preceded the conflict in Georgia.
