Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said that Serbia is making effort to improve its relations with Washington. But this should come without changing the state policy towards Kosovo and Metohija which has been determined by the Constitution, he told a Belgrade TV outlet late on Saturday. "Serbia wants to improve relations with U.S." Jeremic said that Serbia had experienced a very difficult stage of relations with the U.S., "which has still not been overcome". “In saying this, I refer in particular to our huge disagreement [over Kosovo] which reached its peak last year with the unilateral proclamation of Kosovo-Metohija independence,” Jeremic said. The minister underlined that “that is a serious open issue” which burdens the relations between Serbia and the United States, noting that “our position is that it is essential to establish cooperation with the U.S. on all other issues as well”.
