UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier says UN Sec-Gen. Ban Ki-moon's six-point plan is being applied and that UNMIK will remain in Kosovo in a completely different form. According to Pristina media, Zannier told Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu yesterday that the UNMIK reconfiguration was creating a mission that would be far different from the current one, not only in its structure, but also in its functions, with the focus on so-called “political reporting.“ "UNMIK presence to change" Zannier said the UN Security Council believed this mission should play a certain role in the field, daily Koha Ditore said. Daily Zeri reported that the UNMIK chief, speaking about the future of the UN mission, had said the six-point plan, giving greater rights to Serbs in regions where they constitute the majority population, was being implemented in Kosovo. Zannier said he could see progress in the areas covered by the six-point plan and in other areas as well. “The authorities in Kosovo are giving a greater role to minorities in the police, which is good,“ he said. “Even though this is not happening because it is a part of the six-point plan, things are proceeding in the desired direction, which is also the direction of Belgrade, even though there have been complaints in Belgrade that this is taking place without consultations,“ he observed. Pristina papers also reported that the Zannier-Sejdiu meeting was not attended by Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci. Daily Kosova Sot said that Thaci had boycotted the meeting. Thaci said that he had opted for such a course of action after first consulting with Sejdiu, adding that the two men held “the same viewpoint“ that UNMIK needed to curtail its mission.
