Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic says the government should be downsized to 15 or 17 ministries. This, Dinkic told Belgrade daily Blic, would make the Cvetkovic cabinet "cheaper, faster, and much more efficient". Cabinet must be smaller, says Dinkic "When you have this many portfolios, a lot of time is lost by the time we agree on something on the coalition level, and when it goes to those who are supposed to implement in the government," he was quoted as saying. Dinkic said that this did not concern individual careers, rather the society's "objective need to have a smaller and more efficient government". He also said that reducing the number of ministries would be "a logical move" that would complement the government's measures in the face of the economic crisis. Dinkic sent a message to those "unhappy with cuts in expenditure in their ministries", that they must be aware "no one is irreplaceable, no matter from which party they come". According to the G17 Plus leader, his Democratic Party (DS) counterpart and Serbian President Boris Tadic "also supported reducing the number of ministries, when we talked about it". Dinkic said that the measure which orders public sector wages to be lowered also applies to the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), "which always has at its disposal the option to make its own decision to cut salaries". Asked about the timeframe for the distribution of free NIS shares that citizens expect to receive, Dinkic said the company is under obligation to do this six months after its privatization. The minister also said that "work is being done to change the law on free shares".
