Prosecutor: Zemun Clan assets to be frozen The assets in question are Ulemek’s villa in the Belgrade suburb of Cerak, a flat in Athens, and two bank accounts in Switzerland and Greece. Radovanovic says that the first step will be a blockade, precluding any sale of the house or flat in Ulemek’s name, as well as any withdrawals from or deposits into his bank accounts. The acting public prosecutor expects the members of the Zemun Clan to be among the first to feel the impact of the new law, as some of their assets have already been temporarily confiscated and are the subject of a financial investigation. He says that the law has also foreseen the possibility of there being less money in the accounts than expected, given the criminal activities of the individuals concerned. In addition to helping combat organized crime, the prosecution expects the freezing and confiscation of assets to help top up the state coffers during the financial crisis.
