The last three Serb villages in Vitina in Kosovsko Pomoravlje that were left without electricity have had their power supply restored. Power was restored to the villages after talks with officials from the Kosovo Electricity Corporation (KEK), said Zoran Krcmarevic, the Serbs’ representative in the municipality. Power restored in remaining Serb villages The villages of Vrbovac, Mogila and Grncar in Vitina are home to around 900 people, he said, adding that electricity supply had been restored to all Serb villages in the municipality, as well as in the municipalities of Novo Brdo, Gnjilane and Kosovska Kamenica. Krcmarevic, who is the coordinator of the Kosovo Ministry’s local branch in Vitina, said that Serb representatives from the municipality had reached an agreement over paying outstanding electricity bills with KEK officials two days ago. “Serb representatives in Vitina held talks at KEK’s head office two days ago and reached an agreement over bill-paying, after which power supply was restored,” he said. In March, KEK cut off supplies to 14 of a total of 73 Serb villages in the municipalities of Vitina, Gnjilane, Kosovska Kamenica and Novo Brdo, stating that power would not be restored until an agreement was reached. Local Serbs asked for the problem to be settled with the help of the international community and the government, with one of the demands being that meters should be read collectively in each village. In late March a meeting was held in the village of Silovo between Serb representatives from these municipalities and KEK officials, where it was agreed to restore the electricity supply and to continue talks on a long-term solution.
