The Coordinating Body for Southern Serbia chief says that agreement has been reached allowing ethnic Albanian community representatives to return to this body. Nenad Djurdjevic told Tanjug on Monday that the agreement is expected to be signed soon, with representatives of the Presevo, Bujanovac and Mevedja municipalities. Valley Albanians to return to coordinating body After a series of talks, mainly with ethnic Albanian member of parliament Riza Halimi, with Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) mediation, agreement was reached on the reintegration of ethnic Albanian community representatives in the Coordinating Body, Djurdjevic said. Ethnic Albanian community representatives withdrew officially from the Coordinating Body in 2007, but that institution did not function efficiently even prior to the withdrawal due to their boycott, he said. The reintegration of ethnic Albanian community representatives is important, since the activities of the Coordinating Body are aimed above all at development of the three municipalities, which cannot be carried out successfully without their involvement, according to Djurdjevic said. This area in southern Serbia, known as the Presevo Valley, is home to the largest ethnic Albanian population in the country outside of Kosovo.
