EC representatives are currently in Belgrade to supervise Serbia’s fulfillment of conditions for the Schengen white list, writes daily Danas. According to the newspaper, mission members came to Belgrade at the beginning of the week in order to assess Serbia’s efforts to resolve the issue of illegal migration and border control, which is one of the prerequisites it must satisfy. “EC mission in Belgrade again” The European Commission (EC) is due to submit its report in May on fulfillment of Schengen white list conditions by all the countries in the region. The first mission’s EC experts visited Serbia in the first week in February and its visit was publicly announced, but, according to Danas, another mission has visited Serbia in the meantime, from Feb. 16-20, with the assignment of checking fulfillment of standards in identity document protection. Altogether, the expert mission was meant to make four visits, but instead of one of those visits, a meeting was held between Serbian representatives and the EC in Brussels last Friday to discuss the issue of human rights. State secretary in the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights Marko Karadzic told Danas that EC representatives were satisfied with the results Belgrade had presented at the meeting in Brussels. Concerning the anti-discrimination law, Karadzic told representatives in Brussels that the government had pulled the law in order to help create a consensus of support for the law. Danas has learned that the entire negotiating process with the EC on the white list has been declared a secret, and has consequently appealed to the Trustee for Information of Public Importance to launch an inquiry.
