Parliament’s Committee for Gender Equality condemned Tomislav Nikolic’s comments aimed at MP Gordana Pop-Lazic as “improper". At the Feb. 13 parliament session, Nikolic said that Pop-Lazic “raised her hands and her legs like a scarecrow,” causing an emotional reaction from the Serb Radical Party (SRS) MP, who said that she was a widow and that such accusations hit hard. Nikolic behavior was "improper" Nikolic is at the helm of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) which was formed last fall as an offshoot of the Radicals. The committee appealed to all MPs to relate to each other with consideration from the stance of equality of the sexes. At the session it was decided to put the decision before parliament and in doing so, inform all MPs. Voting for the decision were all present members of the committee except those from the SNS. In a letter to the committee, Nikolic said that he had “reacted badly” but asked that the stenographer’s notes be read from September 2008 until today for insults at his expense expressed by Pop-Lazic, Vjerica Radeta, Natasa Jovanovic and Elena Bozic-Talijan. Speaking to journalists after the session, Nikolic said that he did not see where he made a mistake and that the television footage showed Pop-Lazic "did raise her arms and legs" at that time. “Perhaps I reacted improperly, but Gordana Pop-Lazic called me a number of names during the same parliament session, she said that I am a dog and that I have extra-marital children, which directly insults me and my family,” said the SNS leader. He added that the committee had 176 pages rendered in the stenographer’s notes which showed "how the SRS ladies had insulted him and his family". Radicals warned Deputy Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Gordana Comic (DS) today issued more than twenty warnings to the opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) MPs. The warnings, among others given to party leader Dragan Todorovic, were issued for hindering parliament's work. As before, the Radicals were banging on their tables during speeches by members of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS). They have been fined for the same reason several times before. Comic said that such behavior by the Radicals was “arrogant” and “inappropriate” and said she would continue to issue warnings if the MPs continued to disrupt work at the session. After this, the Radicals began to applaud, and a few minutes later the principle debate about amendments and supplements to the Law on Tax Proceedings and Tax Administration continued.
