Croatia will accept the EC’s initiative to send a mediation team headed by Martti Ahtisaari in an attempt to resolve its border dispute with Slovenia.

Croatia will accept the EC’s initiative to send a mediation team headed by Martti Ahtisaari in an attempt to resolve its border dispute with Slovenia. The decision resulted from a meeting of high-ranking state officials and parliamentary party presidents in Zagreb. Croatia to welcome EU mediation The initiative is intended to help both states in “forming a proposal” to bring the border dispute before the International Court in the Hague and in formulating a suggested solution to other controversial matters, according to a statement issued after the meeting. Croatia is determined to join the EU, notes the statement, and firmly committed to developing good relations with all countries in the region, including those in the EU. Croatia welcomes and accepts the initiative proposed by EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, and in keeping with current practices and founding principles of the EU, expects emergency unblocking of its approaching negotiations with the EU, reads the statement.
