The current Serbian government is large and spends more money that the previous one, writes daily Blic. According to this report, Mirko Cvetkovic's cabinet also spent more budget money than that led by his namesake Marjanovic – the last Milosevic regime government before the October 2000 changes in the country. Daily: Current govt. spends big With nine ministers more than today, Marjanovic's cabinet had half as many assistants and deputies, while the entire administration was three times smaller. Today, there are more than 28,000 people paid from the budget, making Serbia a country with one of the world's costliest and largest administrations. It is a little known fact, Blic continues, that the current government spends more than the one replaced on Oct. 5, 2000. Serbia thus sets aside 10 percent of the country's GDP only to pay the administration salaries. This is three times more than what's spent for the same purpose in neighboring Bulgaria, the newspaper writes. The first post-October 2000 cabinet, comprised of ministers, their deputies, advisers and led by Zoran Djindjic had 160 clerks, compared to today's 230. In those days, there were no special advisers or state secretaries. According to Blic, the Djindjic government salaries were much lower than those today, while only ministers and their deputies could use official vehicles. Mirko Marjanovic's administration, newspaper reports from that time suggest, had 70 assistants and deputies and as many expert associates.
