Lt. Gen. Miloje Miletic is soon to become the Serbian Army’s (VS) new chief-of-staff, daily Blic understands from sources in the government. A feud between former Chief-of-staff Zdravko Ponos and Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac ended with the former’s dismissal on the eve of the New Year holidays. "Miletic in line for VS top job" Miletic, currently acting chief-of-staff, who assumed the role at the time, and General-Major Dragan Kolundzija are believed to be the two leading contenders for the post. Kolundzija is head of the Department for Operative Affairs and commanded the 15th Armored Brigade from Pristina during the NATO air strikes. According to earlier reports, President Boris Tadic had been due to appoint the new chief-of-staff, as well as decide on Ponos’s future role, in early February. Miletic was born in 1953. He began his career at the Military Academy in 1976, specializing in artillery. He completed his schooling in 1995 and entered the High Command five years later. During his service in the military, he has occupied the posts of platoon commander through to commander of motorized and artillery brigades, as well as performing the roles of deputy head and head of the Serbia and Montenegro Army’s Artillery Department.
