Ex-RTS chief's trial postponed The accused was not taken out of the prison today in Pozarevac, where he is serving a 10-year sentence. He is in Pozarevac’s Zabela prison after being found guilty in a previous case, accusing him of responsibility for the deaths of 16 RTS workers who died in a NATO air strike on April 23, 1999. Judge Bojana Paunovic said that it came down to court and prison “miscommunication” and that Milanovic was therefore not called to the court as he should have been. Today’s court had expected to hear five witnesses, who turned up before the judges. Milanovic is charged with abusing his official position from September 1996 to August 2000 by allocating housing loans without the consent of RTS editors and the Housing Commission, thereby acquiring assets for others in the amount of RSD 38mn. At the beginning of the trial on Nov. 21, 2008, Milanovic said that he was not guilty and that he hadn’t allocated 53 apartments, as he is accused, "but rather between 200 and 300". “I am charged with something that anyone would be proud of. The indictment, which disgusts me, is a showdown with the Socialist regime, since everything was done according to Socialist laws. The names of those who received apartments stated in the indictment have been selected, so they can mount a hunt against them just like against me,” Milanovic said at the time.
