"Forfeiture law takes effect immediately"

Special Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic says that the Law on Forfeiture of Assets Gained Trough Criminal Activity will be applied in March. The law takes effect on March 1, and Radosavljevic told B92 on Saturday that first procedures can be expected as soon as on March 2. "Forfeiture law takes effect immediately" "The Special Prosecution is absolutely ready to apply this law, and I would like to say that we have waited for it to pass for too long, so we have no right to delay its application." He said that the cases that have not been finalized will be "very interesting" in the context of this legislation, including the Zemun Clan case. "As you know, the process is in the phase of the defendants' appeals. Therefore, the process has not been legally finalized and there is no impediment to apply the provisions the Law on Forfeiture of Assets Gained Trough Criminal Activity," the prosecutor explained. Radisavljevic also said he expects the Financial Investigations Unit to be formed by the beginning of March, and that this unit and his office will establish good cooperation.
