The Serb Radical Party has accused President Boris Tadic of wanting to be the “absolute sovereign round these parts, the monarch with his hand in everything." “Tadic’s statements about Telekom, the work of parliament, and the government’s measures, have marginalized the prime minister and speaker, and shown that he isn’t even bothered about the electoral will of the citizens, and that he has adopted a position from which the only way out is a dictatorship,” reads an SRS statement. SRS: Tadic wants to be king The party calls on Tadic to decide which role to perform, party leader or president of the country, and warns him that he can be an absolutist only in his own party, and not as president of Serbia. Meanwhile, senior SRS MP Vjerica Radeta has said that the planned changes to the parliamentary Code of Procedure fly in the face of democracy and parliamentarism. Radeta said that it was clear that the ruling coalition wanted to prevent MPs, primarily SRS MPs, from taking part in parliament’s work. She said that Radicals would wait to see the definitive draft Code before deciding how to approach the parliamentary session devoted to the proposed changes, but said that they would fight with all democratic means for the rights of MPs, as the rights of Serbia’s citizens were at stake. Pointing out that she had been proposed as a member of the commission for drafting the Code, Radeta said that she had only attended one meeting and that she would no longer take part in its work as the parliamentary majority was not respecting the will of the citizens, and that she was in a position to see everything that the commission had done thus far. “What’s envisioned and what they’re trying to offer MPs is for the time for debate on amendments to be limited to five hours, which means you could end up having more amendments than minutes for debate, which can only mean that they (the ruling coalition) don’t want a debate,“ she observed.
