Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader Vojislav Kostunica has called on MPs to reject the draft Vojvodina statute as an anti-constitutional act. "The government will through its marketing declare even the adoption of that anti-constitutional act as its great victory. If the current government passes the anti-constitutional statute, then it will score victory over its own people, it will be a victory over the Serb nation," Kostunica said. DSS calls for rejection of Vojvodina statute According to him, this piece of legislation puts all MPs in parliament to a "great test of patriotism", since the decision they make will decide on the country's future. "For this reason we are calling all people's deputies to be guided with the state and national interests of Serbia, rather than with party directives, and to reject the anti-constitutional statute of Vojvodina." Kostunica also said that Vojvodina's statue must be harmonized with the Constitution, "so that Vojvodina, just as other parts of our country, develops successfully, with all Vojvodina residents and those from entire Serbia living in a stable, legally arranged and progressive country".
