Serbia may be in line to receive an alternative source of gas supplies, via the so-called White Stream pipeline, says Transnafta CEO Bratislav Ceperkovic. Ceperkovic told daily Dnevnik that the White Stream was planned to come from under the Black Sea, connecting Georgia with a port in Romania, and that the gas would be coming from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and, later, Kazakhstan. Serbia in running for White Stream The idea is to have the existing project plan for a pipeline under the Black Sea, which will be 920 kilometers long, extended from Constanta to Trieste, parallel with the pipeline running from Romania to Italian ports, through Serbia and Croatia, he said. Ceperkovic said that the advantage of White Stream was that it could become operational two years before the South Stream and Nabucco pipelines. He said that White Stream was compatible with both, and did not jeopardize the construction of either, because it did not depend on the same sources as the other two. Serbia, Italy, Romania and Croatia are currently involved in projecting the pipeline, with Slovenia considering joining them at a later stage.
