Serbia is to receive a delegation for the Council of Europe on Friday, said Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Dragoljub Micunovic. Speaking to B92, Micunovic said that an agreement had been reached by a parliamentary majority and that the delegation had been chosen, though he declined to speak about its members or details of the appointments themselves. “CoE delegation on Friday” Failing to choose a delegation for the Council of Europe is a political game, allowing the Serb Radical Party to engineer the non-recognition of mandates of members of the Serb Progressive Party, he believes. He said it was a case of classic parliamentary pressure, and that there was one victim of the sluggishness—Serbia. “That harks of parliamentary instability, which is a shame, but it’s a bigger shame that parliament isn’t doing what it needs to do, as there are obstructions to its constitutional functions. The basic role of parliament is to pass laws, the rest has to be secondary,” said Micunovic. Micunovic, who is also president of the Democratic Party’s Political Council, turned to the controversial excise amendment proposed at the last minute by the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). He believes it is a question of a lack of discipline amongst coalition partners and the SPS needs to support a change to that law in order to remedy the damage. He says the Socialists do not have any other choice. “Then there wouldn’t be a coalition, it wouldn’t be possible. This first problem has to be reacted to, and, in any case, that is the problem with our political life. Everything depends on blackmailing potential, and the extent that one has it. It isn’t just about the Socialists, but also the behavior of others,” he lamented. Micunovic said it was necessary to find a common way out of the current situation, as otherwise he did not rule out the possibility of early elections, which, he said, was a last resort.
