EULEX chief Yves de Kermabon said in Strpce on Tuesday that, "from the technical aspect, it is better to have a single chain of command of police in Kosovo". However he added that this does not mean that the Serb policemen will be under the direct command of EULEX. Single chain of command better, says Kermabon "Here in Strpce we have a police that reports to the Kosovo police command in Urosevac, while in northern [Kosovska] Mitrovica the police reports via the EULEX and from the technical aspect I think it is better to have a single chain of command," he said after meeting with Strpce police commander Dragan Ivanovic. Kermabon also stated that, "currently, this is not so in Kosovo", but that efforts are being made to unite the command chain "and to improve the rule of law". He stated that the EU mission, EULEX, is working with the Kosovo police and KFOR to resolve incidents that took place in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica recently. Kermabon said that there were ethnically mixed police units in that town, "to boost trust and protection of the citizens". "We have a team of Serbs, Bosniaks and ethnic Albanians. We have the good will of the police to combat organized crime and to improve the situation with regards the rule of law," he was quoted as saying.
