Serbia, Britain in defense cooperation deal

Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac and his British counterpart Bob Ainsworth signed an agreement on defense sector cooperation. The deal, inked Monday in London, will be a legal basis for continued cooperation between the two ministries. Serbia, Britain in defense cooperation deal In a statement for Tanjug news agency, Sutanovac said that Great Britain sees Serbia as a stability factor in the Balkans and wishes to maintain strong relations with the government in Belgrade. “We have received assurances that Great Britain wishes the Serbian defense system to continue its reforms and we confirmed our orientation in that direction. We also said that we wish to develop, within Partnership for Peace, friendly and partnership relations with all member states of NATO and Partnership for Peace, which is in our mutual interest,” Sutanovac was quoted as saying. The minister today also met with Foreign Office Minister Lord Mark Malloch-Brown. “We presented our disapproval over the setting up of the Kosovo Security [Forces], but we also underscored that we are not in London today to look for problems but to try and find solutions to the problems,” said Sutanovac. “On the other side, we received assurances that Great Britain wishes to have friendly relations with Serbia. We received assurances that their interest is stability in the Balkans and they want Serbia to be the factor of stability in the Balkans, which it indeed is at this moment."
