According to expert estimates, Serbia could store from 5 to 7 billion cubic meters of gas, Srbijagas Director Dusan Bajatovic said on Sunday. Speaking in an interview for Tanjug, Bajatovic said Russia's Gazprom has sufficient quantities of gas for this to be feasible, bearing in mind the costs of gas and transportation. "Serbia can store billions of cubic meters of gas" "We should make this offer to them, these would be commercial quantities of Gazprom gas stored in Serbia, and it is important that there are reserves of this energy source in our country, so that we could have them at our disposal in emergency situations," Bajatovic said. Srbijagas – the publicly-owned gas company – will step up work on making the necessary documents for the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline, he said. "We have already formed an expert team, it is known how the managing committee will be formed, and already in early February we will starting work on the feasibility study for the South Stream." It took the recent gas crisis to highlight the importance of the Banatski Dvor underground gas depot and the South Stream gas pipeline, Bajatovic concluded.
