Serbia to propose renewal of citizenship talks

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced on Sunday that Serbia will again propose to Montenegro talks on an agreement on dual citizenship. In a statement for Tanjug, Dacic said that the only controversial issue with Montenegro at this time is that it is asking that Serbia should not grant citizenship to Montenegrin citizens without their relinquishing Montenegrin citizenship. Serbia cannot withhold the rights that citizens have on the grounds of the law through an agreement on dual citizenship between Serbia and Montenegro, Dacic specified. Montenegrin Assistant Interior Minister Svetozar Djurovic announced that the Montenegrin government will on Monday or Tuesday inform Serbia that Montenegro will wait no longer than January 31 for a reply to the proposed agreement on dual citizenship.
