An International Education Seminar on the Holocaust is under way, organized by the Jewish Municipalities of Novi Sad. Leading experts from Serbia, Israel, Hungary and Great Britain will give lectures on the topic of the Holocaust. The seminar ends on January 22. Survivors of the raid, relatives of the victims, citizens, Novi Sad city officials and representatives of the Jewish and Roma communities all attended the commemoration of one of the largest mass crimes perpetrated against civilians in Serbia during World War II. All the events are serving as an introduction to International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27. Historian Branka Prpa told B92 that this commemoration was important for all generations in Serbia. “We really have something that we have to foster for future generations, and that is empathy with our ancestors, empathy with our dead. These are residents of this city who died 60 years ago in the most terrible way, they are the children of this city, they are the young men and women of this city, and therefore, our attitude towards them is the attitude that future generations will have towards us,” Prpa said.
