IM Ivica Dacic says the Interior Ministry (MUP) priorities are to preserve stability and security, continue with police reforms, and apply European standards. Maintaining public peace and order, preserving the country's stability and safety, security of the citizens and fighting organized crime rank among the most important task ahead of Serbia's police and the ministry in charge of it, Dacic told Tanjug in an interview. Dacic speaks about MUP priorities Another priority is to continue with police reforms and efforts to give the force the capacity to be efficient, modern, respecting human rights, but at the same time capable of meeting all the challenges of organized and other types of crime. He also commented on MUP's organizational structure to say that several changes took place at various levels, but that "there is no political purge, nor will there be one". "I want everyone to prove themselves by doing their job. The only question here is, can someone do their job. There will certainly be changes as we go along," Dacic revealed. The minister, who is also first deputy PM, added that none of these changes will be such that they leaves people without jobs, "or come as a sort of revanchism". The key issue, Dacic said, is for the state to be aware that the status of the police must improve, "and that's the issue we must insist on". Ivica Dacic (Tanjug)
