First Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that the government is stable and that new elections are not necessary. Dacic, who leads the Socialists (SPS), also said that "disputes must be solved through consultations among the ruling coalition and not through the media". Dacic: Serbia doesn't need elections "The government is stable. We communicate on a regular basis. In the last cabinet session, Mladjan Dinkic said he believed that the government should be united and function in a decisive manner, and I agreed. I believe that the government should exercise unity and solidarity in situations when there is some disagreement," he said in a statement for Tanjug on Thursday. "But that's a remnant, that's a habit," he said of the public airing of the differences between the coalition partners. "Those who were in office after 2000 are used to spending much of their time in mutual showdowns. I have drawn attention to that in the first government sessions, warning about the practice, and I hope that in time we have all learned some lessons," said Dacic, whose party returned to power after eight years last summer, via a deal with the Democrats (DS) and their pre-election coalition. "If Boris Tadic himself says that there should be no elections and that chance should be given to discussions, then let us do that. I believe that there is enough space for that," he said of the Serbian president and DS leader's position, adding that the DS is highly rated at the moment, "perhaps more than over the past several years", and that if there is a figure that should not be afraid of new elections, "it's Tadic". The SPS leader recalled that the government has been unanimous in making all of its decisions, except in the case of the Russian energy agreement. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug)
