Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac on Friday requested a special audit of the Defense Ministry's financial operation in 2008. The ministry said in a statement that Sutanovac sent the request to Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic. Sutanovac wants special audit at MoD "On the occasion of unfounded claims made in the media by Serbian Army Chief of the General Staff [Lt. Gen. Zdravko Ponos] that the Defense Ministry was working in an uneconomical and unprofessional way, I am addressing you with the request for a special audit of the Defense Ministry's financial operation in 2008," the letter said. Sutanovac said that the Finance Ministry's Budgetary Audit conducted between October 16 ad November 23 for the period between January 1, 2006 and October 16, 2007 and that the report had said that the MoD operated in accordance with regulations. The letter said that the Defense Ministry's College had accepted the Budgetary Audit's report. "Please send the Budgetary Audit immediately for the purpose of assessing the legality of operation of the Defense Ministry in the period between October 17, 2007 and December 31, 2008 and informing the competent state bodies and public," the minister wrote. The request came after the clash between Sutanovac and Ponos moved to the public arena and the media earlier this week.
