U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried says the EU mission in Kosovo will be acting within the Resolution 1244, but that it will not be status-neutral. All speculations that the deployment of the EULEX mission will be prelude to a tacit division of Kosovo are unfounded, Fried said in an interview on Friday with Radio Free Europe, ahead the closing of a two-day summit of OSCE in Helsinki, and added that there will be no division of Kosovo. U.S. official: EULEX won't be status-neutral "The EULEX mission is not status-neutral and it will largely strengthen Kosovo's territorial integrity," Fried said. According to him, Kosovo Albanian institutions have shown "wisdom in accepting EULEX". Fried added that it was "a smart choice", and one beneficial for "Kosovo's sovereignty". Reacting to the statement, Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic also on Friday said that it is a message by which this U.S. State Department official "wishes to neutralize Kosovo Albanians' dissatisfaction". "Fried has played a significant role in persuading the Kosovo leadership to accept Ban Ki-moon's six-point plan, previously agreed on by the UN and Belgrade, therefore his statement today has only one goal: to calm down Kosovo Albanians and show them that America has not turned its back on them," Bogdanovic told Tanjug.
