Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic invited the OSCE to fulfill the mandate of its mission in Kosovo. He spoke in Helsinki on Thursday to underline that the mission could play an important role in the reconfigured international presence, Beta news agency reported. Jeremic to OSCE: Fulfill mandate in Kosovo "The OSCE mission in Kosovo has to take the issue of status neutrality seriously, and fulfill its mandate," Jeremic said at the OSCE Ministerial Council, repeating that Serbia is not pleased with the mission's work. Jeremic called on member countries to support Serbia's proposal to establish collective centers which will provide help to non-Albanian communities. "OSCE members have so far put significant effort and funds into establishing peace, stability and the security of a divided and ambivalent Kosovo society. We are all aware of the fact that the mission's future engagement represents one of the biggest challenges for the OSCE and its member countries," Jeremic stated. Addressing the gathering of OSCE foreign ministers, Jeremic pointed out that Serbia is a country with the highest number of refugees and displaced persons registered by the OSCE, and he stressed that "this cannot be solved in a sustainable and dignified way without full restitution or compensation for destroyed or ravished property." Jeremic assessed 2008 as the most difficult year in Serbia's political transition, but that, in spite of problems, “democracy grew stronger and European prospects progressed."
