Croatian PM Ivo Sanader says that the publication of a photomontage of him wearing a Nazi uniform on Facebook is targeted against democracy in Croatia. “Everything that’s going on on Facebook with that Nazi insignia, it’s not aimed against the prime minister, but against democracy in Croatia,“ Sanader told Croatian radio. He said that “there is no satire or games with swastikas or Nazi and ustasha insignia.“ Sanader: Nazi pics "attack on democracy" Sanader said that the police had still to look into the matter, as he had been outside the country and had not been informed of it, reported the Hina agency. A photo of Sanader wearing a Nazi uniform appeared on the group page of the president of the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Dubrovnik youth forum, Niksa Klecak, who created the group that is highly critical of the prime minister’s policies. The police have taken Klecak in for questioning. Senior police officer Krunoslav Borovec said that the police were acting in line with the law, after the picture appeared. Nazi symbols are prohibited by Croatian law. Sanader stressed that the police had been depoliticized during his first mandate, adding that it would “do its job, regardless of what the prime minister or any other minister thinks.“ He added that everyone had the right to express their opinions via the internet, but that propagation of a totalitarian system could not be tolerated, “particularly when it comes from any political party in Croatia, especially those who call themselves anti-fascists.“ Sanader said that SDP leader Zoran Milanovic’s statement that it had only been a case of satire was very dangerous. “I think that’s a very dangerous statement,“ Sanader told Croatian radio, stressing that democracy cannot be toyed with by glorifying totalitarianism.
