The government has decided to begin the procedure for filing a counter-suit against Croatia before the ICJ for genocide committed against ethnic Serbs. The government’s decision was revealed to the media by Trade and Services Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic, who said that the government had decided to form a legal team to work on establishing the truth about the conflicts in Croatia during the 1991-1995 war. On Tuesday, the ICJ ruled that it had jurisdiction over a suit filed by Croatia in 1999 against Serbia, in which it claims that Belgrade is responsible for genocide committed against non-Serbs in Croatia in 1991-1995.

The Croatian suit accuses Serbia of violating the Convention for Genocide and calls for all perpetrators to be sanctioned, for cultural property to be returned, and for war reparations to be paid of an amount determined by the court.
