President Boris Tadic has said that the government will have to implement saving measures in next year's budget. This should come in order for the state to be able to overcome the consequences of the international financial crisis, "but these measures must not additionally burden the most vulnerable citizens", he was quoted as saying. Tadic weighs in on budget draft In an interview with Belgrade's Pink TV, Tadic said that the 2009 budget would be the first major exam for the Serbian government and finance minister, because Serbia finally had to learn that it must not spend more than it earns. "We must save much more than before and we must spend as much as we produce. We have learnt to spend more than we have produced and this is how the state behaved in the past few years," Tadic said. The state primarily must reduce its administrative apparatus and find space for saving in numerous fields, he added. "If the principle of saving is established, not a single citizen can say that what affected them due to the financial crisis is unjust. We can go together through everything forthcoming," Tadic said.
