Belgrade's Nikola Tesla airport yesterday received a tip-off about a bomb aboard one of its planes, that turned out to be a hoax. Nevertheless, passengers on the Jat Airways Boeing 737, traveling from Dubai via Larnaca, spent seven hours yesterday stranded in this Cypriot town as the authorities in both countries conducted their procedures. The airport in Belgrade received the anonymous telephone call at 07:37 CET. The caller said that Jat's flight 089 had a bomb aboard the plane "that would go off at an altitude of 8,000 meters". At that moment, the plane was in mid-flight, just under an hour from the scheduled stop in Cyprus. The airport security in Larnaca then applied its procedures, raising the security to the highest level. After a search of the aircraft, the passengers and their luggage, it was determined that the warning was false. In Serbia, MUP will now try to trace the source of the call. Hoax bomb warnings carry prison time for those found guilty and convicted.
