The U.S. presidential election is the main focus of the Kosovo media, which reports that it is a historic event not only for the U.S., but the entire world. Electronic media followed the results as they came in throughout the night, while newspapers covered the election on their front pages. Pristina media hails Obama victory "Barack means blessed, and he received that blessing from the Americans to lead the world’s most powerful nation as it faces its hardest times,” states daily Express, emphasizing that the Obama story could happen only in America. Koha Ditore writes about the changes within the White House. “The presidential race between Obama and McCain, while being historic, will bring essential changes to the White House,” this daily reports. The U.S. soldiers deployed in Kosovo also had a chance to vote at the election. Daily Zeri reports that approximately 900 soldiers from the Bondsteel Camp voted, adding that there are 2,000 registered American voters in Kosovo, serving in various civil or military missions. Quoting soldiers from Bondsteel, the daily writes that the election is of paramount importance and will have a directly influence on the U.S. armed forces. All media in Pristina report the statement of U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo Tina Kaidanow, who has reiterated on several occasions in the run-up to the elections that regardless of the winner, Washington would keep supporting Kosovo.
