EU Council’s Director for the Western Balkans Stefan Lehne has spoken with President Boris Tadic about EULEX in Belgrade, writes daily Danas. Representatives of the president and EU Common Foreign and Security Policy Chief Javier Solana’s special envoy met in Belgrade late last week, Danas has learned from EU headquarters. "Tadic–Lehne meeting shrouded in secrecy" There is no confirmation for now, as has been reported in some media, that there was any discussion of the text of a document for the Security Council to approve the deployment of the EULEX mission in Kosovo. The daily’s sources in Brussels confirmed yesterday that Lehne met with Tadic’s representatives in Belgrade, but said that there was no information on the said document. The EU says that this meeting is one of a series on reaching agreement on EULEX that are under way at various levels, as part of which Solana recently spoke with Tadic by phone. The Serbian Presidency told Danas that they were not in the habit of commenting on unnamed media sources, and there was no answer as to who spoke on Tadic’s behalf, or what, if anything, was agreed. Furthermore, if this information is true, there was no explanation as to why the president’s people were holding the talks and not the government, whether this exceeded the president’s mandate as defined by the Constitution, or on whose authority the Serbian negotiators were discussing EULEX, given that parliament has yet to consider the matter.
