Slovenian and UK Foreign Ministers Dimitrij Rupel and David Milliband have met in Ljubljana to discuss bilateral cooperation. They talked about relations between the EU and Russia, the Western Balkans and the Lisbon Treaty. Rupel, Miliband meet in Ljubljana Milliband came to Slovenia in the company of Queen Elizabeth II. Rupel said that relations between the two countries were excellent, the Foreign Ministry in Ljubljana stated. The statement quotes Rupel’s view that the Queen’s visit would further improve relations between the two countries. United Kingdom is among Slovenia’s top ten trading partners. Rupel expressed his concern over the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, which is also connected to the EU enlargement process. The Slovenian minister reiterated that it was in Slovenia’s interest that the EU be enlarged, especially in regard to the Western Balkans, which had been the priority of Slovenia’s EU presidency. Speaking about relations between the EU and Russia, Rupel repeated Slovenia’s position that the EU must continue to negotiate a new agreement with Russia, because it was the EU’s strategic partner and could contribute to European stability.
