The re-trail of those accused of war crimes at the Ovcara Farm near Vukovar, that was scheduled to resume today, has been adjourned until November 17. The decision was taken because of the health of defendant Predrag Dragovic, who has been hospitalized. Ovcara war crimes retrial adjourned The re-trial is nearing completion and the defense and prosecution are expected to give their closing statements next month. The trial for the execution of more than 200 Croat prisoners at the Ovcara Farm on the night of November 20, 1991, began in March 2007 after the Supreme Court overturned the initial verdict of the Belgrade District Court’s War Crimes Chamber. 17 suspects stand accused of war crimes, including Vukovar territorial defense commander Miroljub Vujovic, his deputy Stanko Vujanovic, paramilitary unit commander Milan Lancuzanin and soldiers Predrag Milojevic, Predrag Dragovic, Djordje Sosic, Miroslav Djankovic, Ivan Atanasijevic and Sasa Radak. In the first trial, all were found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Under the ruling overturned by the Supreme Court in December 2006, Vujo Zlatar, Milan Vojinovic and Jovica Peric were sentenced to 15 years behind bars, Predrag Madzarac to 12, Nada Kalaba, the only woman among the accused, to nine years, and Goran Mugos to five years in prison. Marko Ljuboja and Slobodan Katic were cleared in the original trial.

The re-trial is nearing completion and the defense and prosecution are expected to give their closing statements next month.
