The League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV) will release proof of the existence of a “gas Mafia” on Monday, says LSV leader Nenad Canak. President Boris Tadic stresses that the government is stable. LSV extends government deadline B92 understands from the party that this means that the LSV has extended its deadline until Monday for the government to justify the 60 percent gas bill hikes. Tadic said that the government was stable and that the LSV's talk of withdrawing support to the government merely "served daily policy". "I want to assure people that the government is stable. Those political messages serve daily policy and cannot be put into practice... Those messages have no bearing on the future," he told journalists after the signing of the Declaration of Reconciliation with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). SPS leader Ivica Dacic said that he would happily look at the document Canak was referring to, and which points to the existence of a "gas Mafia" in Serbia. The first deadline given by Canak, on which he conditioned his future support for the ruling coalition in parliament, expired at midnight. By the looks of things, the LSV is unhappy with the explanation offered by Mining and Energy Minister Petar Skundric to the Parliamentary Industry Committee. Skundric, who appeared in parliament in the midst of an outcry at the move, said that he was sorry for the drastic increases, and that the government would try to find ways to help customers deal with the increases.
