Serbia will continue talks with Montenegro on a dual citizenship agreement in spite of Podgorica’s recognition of Kosovo, says Interior Minister Ivica Dačić.

Serbia will continue talks with Montenegro on a dual citizenship agreement in spite of Podgorica’s recognition of Kosovo, says Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. Dacic said that the agreement had to be concluded by October 22, the deadline set by the Montenegrin authorities for reaching a deal. Dual citizenship talks to continue Working groups would be continuing the negotiations, he said. “Respecting the interest of Montenegrin citizens and also the interests of Serbian citizens that want to have Montenegrin citizenship, we will continue talks, we’ll try to come to an agreement. Talks will continue at the lower level of working groups starting from next week,“ said the minister. He said that the matter had been discussed at the last cabinet meeting, and that it had been concluded that the issue of dual citizenship was in the interests of citizens of both countries. Dacic and Jusuf Kalameprovic launched negotiations on dual nationality in Belgrade on October 1. A second round of talks at working group level was held in Budva on October 8, and it was agreed that a third, and probably final, round would be held in Belgrade on October 13.
