Political analyst Obrad Kesic says the vote in the United Nations is just part of a strategy that Serbia needs to build in relation to Kosovo. “The Kosovo question is not an issue in a vacuum, it is tied to Serbia’s other interests. For example, the current government stated that it supports quick EU integration. If they want to achieve that, they will have to use all their aces with the EU and America,” Kesic said. “Kosovo tied to other interests” He said that at a time, when the world economic crisis was sweeping Europe, “it is slightly ridiculous to talk about quick EU entry.” “In view of the economic crisis, it is realistic to believe that the process will be a lot harder and longer,” Kesic said. He believes that the new U.S. administration will not make any abrupt changes to its policy towards Serbia. Kesic said that the new administration would not have any specific or clearly-defined stances on Kosovo’s unilateral independence or support for that act, or in regard to changes to the Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1995. It will automatically continue the policies towards Serbia of the last administration, which means that it will support Kosovo’s independence and development, with the same going for the Dayton Accords, Kesic said.
