An investigation against former Serbian Vice Consul in New York Igor Milosevic continues today in Belgrade. Milosevic is suspected of issuing Serbian student Miladin Kovacevic with temporary travel documents, which he used to flee the United States. Kovacevic case: Vice consul probe continues Kovacevic was previously released on bail and faces assault charges in the state of New York. Former Consul General Slobodan Nenadovic, who was already questioned regarding the case in September, was called in again to add to his statement regarding the circumstances under which Milosevic issued a passport to Kovacevic after the original document was confiscated by American authorities. During his first testimony, Nenadovic said that he was not familiar with the details of what happened, but that Milosevic had the authority to give out such documents. Two other witnesses will also be questioned—consulate employees Jelena Djordjevic and Milovan Bajicevic, who arrived from New York three days ago. Milosevic’s custody was extended on Thursday for another month because of the possibility that he might influence the testimony of potential witnesses. If the prosecution does not gather any new evidence against Milosevic, he could be released after the remaining witnesses have given their statements.

Kovačević was previously released on bail and faces assault charges in the state of New York.

Former Consul General Slobodan Nenadović, who was already questioned regarding the case in September, was called in again to add to his statement regarding the circumstances under which Milošević issued a passport to Kovačević after the original document was confiscated by American authorities.

During his first testimony, Nenadović said that he was not familiar with the details of what happened, but that Milošević had the authority to give out such documents.

Two other witnesses will also be questioned—consulate employees Jelena Đorđević and Milovan Bajićević, who arrived from New York three days ago.

Milošević’s custody was extended on Thursday for another month because of the possibility that he might influence the testimony of potential witnesses.

If the prosecution does not gather any new evidence against Milošević, he could be released after the remaining witnesses have given their statements.
