Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic says that the Serb Radical Party (SRS) is continuing to obstruct the work of parliament. She said that the SRS was impeding the adoption of important laws needed to put Serbia on the Schengen White List. “SRS jeopardizing Schengen hopes” “We will see how much longer the SRS will abuse Articles 225 and 226 of the Parliamentary Code, or if we will have to continue to be subjected to further abuse of the agenda. They, of course, claim that they are not hampering the agenda, but are using the Code in order to stay informed regarding the most important issues, they say,” Djukic-Dejanovic told daily Blic. SRS official Gordana Pop-Lazic told Blic that the adoption of the so-called Schengen laws depended solely on whether the majority endorsed “the democratic principles in the work of parliamentary committees.” Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic (FoNet) “If they understand that they have to change the members of the parliamentary committees in accordance with democratic procedures and return mandates to the SRS, then they could maybe even adopt the laws, but I doubt it, because there are 21 points on the agenda that we have submitted many amendments to,” Pop-Lazic said. G17 Plus MP Suzana Grubjesic said that “if what Pop-Lazic says is true, then it is obvious that it won’t be possible to adopt the laws within the scheduled time frame,” by October 15. “Maybe it is time to find other ways of sanctioning those who obstruct parliament’s work because the sessions are turning into an ugly farce, and it is no wonder people are saying that parliament is full of nutcases,” Grubjesic said.
